Everyone Matters

This January, we’re starting a new student message series titled “Everyone Matters”. It is all about understanding the fact that evangelism is at the core of God’s heart and encouraging and equipping students to live the life of an authentic follower of Jesus while inviting others to experience the same.

Most believers know that loving others is important, but it’s something many of them rarely practice. This is due to fear, unhealthy expectations, and a lack of practical ideas. This series will address all of those issues, providing students with the tools they need to effectively and confidently communicate the truth of Jesus to their peers. Here’s some of the themes we’ll be hitting each week:

EVANGELISM 101 – Understanding God’s heart for those far from Him.

BECOMING THE REAL DEAL – Living the authentic life of a follower of Jesus before a watching world.

EMBRACING THE PROCESS – Being faithful to the long haul of evangelism.

THE ART OF SHARING YOUR OWN STORY – Harnessing the power of a changed life.

UNDERSTANDING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE – Clearly communicating God’s story to those far from God.

We can’t wait to dig into all that God has for us in the New Year!

Unfortunate Message Goofs

// December 17th, 2008 // 5 Comments » // Movies, Youth Ministry

As I was reading through the morning devotional with my girls this morning (we love to use YouthWalk — I highly recommend it!), I came across the phrase “pitching their tents” on a passage we were reading about the Old Testament tabernacle.  That brought me immediately back to this “classic” viral video of this poor guy…

I heard recently somewhere that this guy is still around and doing ministry.  Can anyone confirm that?  Thankfully, he probably has an understanding and playful staff.

Just this year, I had an embarrassingly similar experience.  When I was sharing a heartfelt moment for illustration at a Wednesday night rally service, I communicated that I was literally “crying my balls out”… um… OOPS!  I meant to say “bawling my eyes out.”  It was supposed to be a very serious, tear-inducing moment.  It enduced tears all right!  Tears of LAUGHTER!  Thanks to my staff, who love to remember “great moments” like this, I’ve not been able to live this moment down.  ;-)

** UPDATE: Thanks to fellow readers, here’s Blake Bergstrom’s blog.

Music @ Project Church

// October 31st, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Music, Spiritual

So excited to be able to help out my friend Jason Salamun by singing at Project Church tomorrow night, 6:00 PM @ the Alternative Fuel Coffee House. I’d love to see a few familiar faces there, if you can make it!

I met Jason earlier this year through our blogs and have had a few meals with him since.  I love the guy’s passion and heart.  Project Church was planted downtown last month and is reaching out to a group of people that many traditional churches don’t generally reach.  I love it!  Here’s a video highlighting their current message series.  Tomorrow night’s message will address the question, “Why does God allow suffering?”

Extraordinary Message Series

// October 22nd, 2008 // No Comments » // Elevate Update

Our next message series will share the “Extraordinary” theme with the upcoming youth convention we are attending in Pierre.  Many of our students want to live an Extraordinary life. The question is not if they want to, it’s how. The series will help our students prepare for a great youth convention (for those that are attending) as well as answer the important question; “How can I live an Extraordinary Life?”
