Building Wise H.A.B.I.T.S.

// October 22nd, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Elevate Update, Spiritual

Ummm… please excuse my strange behavior.  It looks like, after watching this video, I’ve picked up some BAD HABITS of my own over the years.  AHEM…

Anyhow, we believe in putting a high priority on helping teenagers to become spiritually self-sufficient. Sure, we value creating fun environments to spend time with friends while growing in the biblical purposes for their lives. But we know from experience that those who follow Christ after they graduate from youth group are those who have learned to feed themselves spiritually.

That’s why we believe in emphasizing HABITS, our acronym for six disciplines that can help students (and adults) grow spiritually on their own. These six are definitely not the only spiritual habits for a self-feeding faith, but they are enough to get one grounded:

Hang-time with God
A
ccountable friendships
B
ible meditation and memorization
I
nvolvement within the body of Christ
T
ithing, and
S
tudying scripture

This series will help us understand these HABITS and see them as described in the book of Psalms.

New Message Series: The Calling

// March 20th, 2009 // No Comments » // Elevate Update, Spiritual

the-calling

God called Abraham out of his homeland to be the start of something great: a nation that would one day be called Israel. Abraham followed God through deserts and famine, laughed at the impossibility of God’s promises, and found his faith on the line when God called him to sacrifice his miracle child. Abraham (who was first known as Abram) was a blessed man — but he was never blessed for his own sake. He was blessed so that God’s glory might be seen throughout the world.

God blesses us because He loves us, and as a loving Father, He finds pleasure in blessing us. God’s plan for blessing others often includes us. Enter into Abraham’s story. Walk with him through the Negev. Learn as he gets caught up in lies. Laugh with his wife. Walk up the altar with a great trust in the Lord. And experience how God is using you to bless others!

For the next month we are going to go on a journey together to recognize how we’ve received blessings from God and how we can use those blessings to bless others. Through the course of our time together we will also learn how the hardest times and biggest mistakes can sometimes be hidden blessings. By the end of this series, our hope is that you will have a new perspective on God’s love and blessing in your life and a better understanding of how you are invited to share that love with other people in specific ways.

God calling you…are you answering the call?  See you on Wednesdays the @ 7:00 pm student rally services to walk through that question with us.

Mo Money

It’s time for a new message series…

mo-money

Donald Trump garnered all kinds of attention for himself in the early 2000′s by offering “mere mortals” the ultimate job interview on The Apprentice. On the show contestants competed against each other to prove who was the best manager. Trump was looking for someone he could hire to be a good manager, or steward, of his resources.

“God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9, MSG). Being totally committed includes wisely using the physical resources He provides us. This series will look at ownership and management of the money and possessions we have and how we can be wise stewards (or managers).

This is what the next three weeks is gonna look like message-wise:

- Who Owns All This Stuff Anyway? (Psalm 50:8-12)
- How Much Do I Give? (Leviticus 27:30; Matthew 6:2-4; Mark 12:31-44)
- Showing Hospitality…Sharing the Other 90 Percent (1 Peter 4:10)
