“Nacho” Talent Show

// May 23rd, 2010 // 3 Comments » // Elevate Update, Movies, Pop Culture

Just in case you weren’t at the AM services at Destiny this morning, you missed out on a little sneak peak to one of our special guest talents at this year’s Elevation Talent Show…

I previewed this video to a friend on the West Coast earlier this week.  His reaction?  “Awesome! I wish he was MY pastor!” LOL!

If you are not familiar with this annual event, the Elevation Talent Show is an entertaining mix of talent, fun, and laughs.  Several acts audition and compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prices.  The audience gets to place votes for their favorite acts with cash or check at the intermission and after the show.  All proceeds benefit the teenagers of Elevate Student Ministries.  It’s a great event all around!

Seriously, though, if you haven’t set up an audition time with Pastor Deanna yet, today is your last day.  This is the last week she is doing auditions for the event.  Hurry!

The services are open to the public: Wednesday, May 12th @ 7:00 PM and Thursday, May 13th @ 7:00 PM.  Be there!

I [HEART] This Place: New Message Series

// May 5th, 2010 // No Comments » // Elevate Update

Part of the title in this series is a play on words.  Pastor Deanna and I (Shawn) really love Destiny and the teens at Elevate Student Ministries.  We LOVE this place!

The real idea behind this series, though, is that God hasn’t designed us to experience life alone. We were created to have friends and relationships who help us pursue God’s purposes and plan for our lives.  Friends  who walk alongside us through good and bad times.

This series is designed to turn our attention toward the importance and benefits of healthy friendships. As we pursue and develop deep friendships, we are helping to create community and reflect God’s love to the world around us.

We are going to examine the rewards of having high-quality friendships, consider ways to encourage oir friends, and grasp the dangers of gossip. The end-goal is to help all of us make healthy friendships a high priority in our lives, just as it’s a high priority to God.

Here’s how we see it breaking down:

Week 1: Quality vs. Quantity (Proverbs 27:17)
Week 2: Encourage, Encourage, Encourage (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Week 3: How to Ruin a Great Friendship (Proverbs 16:28)
