Luke Dowler in Concert!

// September 11th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Current Events, Music

Date: Saturday September 13, 2008
Time: 7:00 pm
Place: Bowman Hall, Herman Park, Belle Fourche (click for map and directions)
Cost: Throw a couple of bucks in the jar if you can!

My student pastor friend, Clay Conry (check his blog at F.o.e.c.u.s. Student Ministries), is hosting Luke Dowler live in concert this weekend in Belle Fourche.  Luke is an artist that loves to share his story and the stories of others through songs. His stories help to untangle what matters with what doesn’t. In that process he is able to share the reaity of God’s love through Jesus. It all culminates in one word: Life.  Jesus came to give life, and life more abundantly. Within Luke’s music, you will always find a direction; a pointing of the listener towards real life. That real life is Jesus.

Opening for Casting Crowns

// September 2nd, 2008 // 6 Comments » // Current Events, Music

Yesterday, I had a fun day playing with a bunch of great guys opening up for Casting Crowns at a benefit concert hosted by Wings As Eagles Ministries.  My pastor, Brent Parker, was on keys and leading, Ken Verheecke on electric guitar, new found friend, Mike Morgan, on bass (he’s really good), and I was on drums.  So fun!  I wanted to share some pics from the day…

First of all, the stage blew me away!  I totally wasn’t expecting a “big festival stage” like this – whoa!

Mike and Brent just after arriving on site… waiting to get our gear unloaded.  “We’re here!”

“Ken’s Frurtrated!” — that’s the tag line I put on this pic when I initially posted to TwitPic via my cell phone.

My perspective from the drum throne…

Cynthia’s in awe with the whole experience (grin)…

After our set, we figured out that both sets of keys that were brought for the van were locked inside.  Oops!  No fear – Lloyd Bruce to the rescue!  He got inside in no time.

I took a few TwitPics during the day, but the service was really sketchy… this one I called “the Pic pic” (sigh).

We came up with a new stage name for Verk… wait for it… wait for it… (anticipation building)… it’s “X-emo!”

This pic was taken during a surprise encore song after Casting Crown’s lead singer, Mark Hall, was given a Native American quilt in honor of their performance.  If you look close enough, you can see the quilt draped on Mark’s back (click for larger view).  Hearing the stories the band shared about ministering in Pine Ridge earlier in the day, listening to Mark share his heart between songs, and hearing the band pray for the region and the Dream Center was inspiring.

I took more pics, too.  You can see them all here.

Weekend with Michael Fugitt

// June 3rd, 2008 // No Comments » // Elevate Update, Music

We had a great weekend at Destiny with Michael Fugitt sharing at the Sunday morning and evening services. His music and ministry was “hopp’n” and many left Sunday night challenged to reach out to the world around us.

I got to hang out with Michael and his friend David for a good portion of Saturday (in the Hills) and Sunday (in Summerset), too. Here’s some pics from the weekend.

Stay tuned for some video highlights of Sunday night’s concert.

Newbies' Night Bowling

// May 20th, 2008 // No Comments » // Elevate Update, Music

It’s time to celebrate students graduating into the student ministry (and also those graduating from junior high into the senior high program). Part 1 of our celebration starts with a Sunday night, June 1st, concert with hip-hop artist, Michael Fugitt. Get the details here.

After that, we’ve still got more! Join us on Wednesday night, June 4th at Robbinsdale Lanes for some bowling (cost is just $2.50; please bring exact change, if you can). Then, we’ll head back to the youth room, have some dinner, and more fun. All in celebration of our Newbies! We hope you can make it to celebrate with us!
