The Untold Story in Haiti

// February 23rd, 2010 // No Comments » // Current Events, Spiritual, Web Sites, Youth Ministry

Continuing to get blown away by the stories I’m hearing coming from fellow Christians serving/ministering in Haiti. I find myself praying for Haitians daily. God has really put them heavy on my heart.

What’s crazy is that there are amazing, nationwide movements of God happening over there… things that aren’t getting any airtime in the news. On February 12 — just a week-and-a-half from today — President Préval of Haiti called his nation to 3 days of fasting and prayer in place of the regular Mardi Gras celebration. Over 1 million Haitians attended this epic event. Watch the following video; I pray it stirs something inside of you to pray, go, and give.

For more incredible videos, pics and ministry happenings in Haiti, please visit my friends over at facebook.com/ymath.  They are back from their trip now, but these stories still need to be shared.  Let’s make this real to our hearts and love and serve Haiti as we are called.

Be a Part of the Change Haiti Needs

This is the group, Adventures in Missions (AIM), that we partnered with in our outreach to the Katina-affected regions of Louisiana a few years ago.  I’m praying for a group of youth leaders / blogger friends that will be leaving on a trip with AIM to Haiti this week.  You can follow their story via Twitter and Facebook.  Will you join me?

The Butterfly Circus

// February 1st, 2010 // No Comments » // Featured Video, Movies, Spiritual, Youth Ministry

If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend checking out “The Butterfly Circus”. It’s a short film written, produced, and directed by Joshua Weigel, the youth pastor/actor in the movie, “To Save a Life”.

“The Butterfly Circus” is a powerful tale of grace in the midst of struggle, following the story of a limbless sideshow act whom “even God has turned His back on” to… well… something much better. (I don’t want to ruin it for you.)

We showed it to students at Catalyst Disciplship last night and simply asked them to answer the following question: “What’s one thing that stuck out to you from this film?”

There were about ten in the group and I was pleasantly surprised by their response. We ended up talking about self-worth, pride, turning the other cheek, personal struggles/hardships, taking a stand, encouraging others, abuse, and more… all from the student’s different viewpoints — their collective take on the film.

Check it out for yourself below. It was the 1st place recipient of The Doorpost Film Project.

The “fantabulous” video was filmed at Highland Park Presbyterian Church on Dec. 13th, 2009 as a part of their Club Christmas Youth Service.  Mary and Joseph has some pretty sweet dance moves; check ‘em out!

Big shout out to Lars Rood and his staff for being so amazing!
