Help Repair the Faith Orphanage in Haiti

// January 21st, 2010 // Elevate Update, Spiritual

Last weekend, Destiny Foursquare Church took up a special offering for Haiti relief efforts.  We collected over $2,000 to give through Foursquare Missions.  We praise God and thank you for your willingness to give to such an area of need.

The pictures you see above are from the Faith Orphanage in Jacmel, Haiti.  Major portions of their home was destroyed from the recent earthquakes in their region. All of the the orphans there are safe — thank God — but the orphanage is in ruins.  Steve Cecil, a Foursquare pastor and friend of Jeremy Pummel, our camp speaker for this summer, is deeply connected to this orphanage and has been traveling there for the past 3 years.  There are efforts underway to begin rebuilding this orphanage and the goal is to raise $25,000.  $10,000 has already been raised.

This is where we come in.  Jeremy, who is also our district NextGen leader, believes that collectively our district of NextGen students can raise the remaining $15,000.  That includes us.  Are you in?

The next two weeks (Wednesday the 27th and February 3) we will be taking a special offering from you, the students of Elevate, to aid in this endeavor.  I want to personally challenge each student to raise $20 or more to help the orphans.  For those of you that can, please do more.  If we each brought in that amount, we could easily raise $500 or more.  LET’S DO IT!

Bring your collected monies to the rally services or encourage friends and family to donate online securely at the following address: http://destiny4square.chipin.com/faith-orphanage-haiti.  All monies collected will go directly to aiding the orphans at Faith Orphanage.

UPDATE:

  • This orphanage is 12-years-old.
  • They currently have 32 kids, but have a vision for 50 boys and 50 girls.
  • They are not Foursquare but because of their relationship with Foursquare churches they are considering possibly entering into the Foursquare family.
  • The leaders there are Haitians and are deeply committed to the care, education, love and growth of every child that comes through.
  • Their heart is to educate, care for (physically and spiritually), and raise children until they reach an age where they can care for themselves as well as their family.

The following video is from a trip to Faith Orphanage in January of 2008.
