Transition

Like many of you, I’m hitting several grad parties this weekend.  Students all over the region are making the transition this summer from the security and familiarness of home and their church families to the unknown world of professors, dorm life, and doing their own laundry (scary). Like many of you, I’m hitting several grad parties this weekend.  Students all over the region are making the transition this summer from the security and familiarness of home and their church families to the unknown world of professors, dorm life, and doing their own laundry (scary).

I read this today from another youth worker I know in Brookings who works with students transitioning into SDSU…

… this transition time is……..well……..very challenging. It seems we have (thus far) had a success rate of probably 10-12%. That is not good. While there are many reasons I could give you about where our focus needs to shift to ensure more future success, for now I would like to direct your attention to a website that has just come to my attention. The site: www.transitionsmsm.org They have designed a transitionary phase to help your students grow into this next season of life (as opposed to: falling).

I’m really interested in this.  I might have to check it out a little more thoroughly.  Anybody else try this out?

Art Alley: Downtown Rapid City

I thought the following post, from my revolutionary, church-planting friend Jason Salamun (who is also a great blogger), was really interesting.  I’ve always thought Art Alley was a pretty cool expression of people’s diverse gifts and ideas.  Check it out here…

Take Some Risks in Life

I thought this video was especially fitting for all the graduating seniors this week. We can never challenge ourselves enough to go beyond our comfort zones and reach for the unreachable. God’s dreams are so BIG for us; it’s my prayer that my life fulfills ALL that He has for me. God, help me to […]

I thought this video was especially fitting for all the graduating seniors this week. We can never challenge ourselves enough to go beyond our comfort zones and reach for the unreachable. God’s dreams are so BIG for us; it’s my prayer that my life fulfills ALL that He has for me. God, help me to not be afraid of taking risks in life.

I just got back this evening from a very inspiring community baccalaureate service at Crossroads Wesleyan. Caleb Grenz sang an amazing new song he had written, some area youth workers shared from their hearts, a passionate student band led us in worship, and there was even a great Nooma video — it was the best baccalaureate service I’ve ever attended, imho. I hope to post some video snippets in the next couple of days.

Birth of Breakdancing?

Posted on May 25, 2008 by Pastor Derick in Just for Fun, Music

Hmmmm… some crazy-talented soviet dancers mashed up with Run DMC’s classic, “It’s Like That”. Are we possibly witnessing the birth of 80’s breakdancing? ht Marko
